%X Se realiz車 una investigaci車n con el prop車sito de identificar los patrones de exfoliaci車n celular durante la evoluci車n del tratamiento periodontal y comparar la respuesta citol車gica gingival en diversos m谷todos terap谷uticos. Se estudiaron 90 pacientes de uno y otro sexos en edades comprendidas entre los 20 y 50 a os. Se formaron 3 grupos de 30 pacientes, en cada uno se tuvo en cuenta que la enfermedad cl赤nica fuera electiva de alguna de las modalidades de tratamiento previstas en el estudio (colgajo, gingiventom赤a, raspado y alisado radicular). Las muestras citol車gicas se tomaron en la zona vestibular de las enc赤as marginal y papilar mediante raspado; se fijaron por roc赤o qu赤mico (cytospray) y se colorearon con el m谷todo cl芍sico de Shorr-Pundel. La evaluaci車n celular se realiz車 considerando s車lo 2 tipos citol車gicos: c谷lulas superficiales sin n迆cleo (ST2) y c谷lulas superficiales con n迆cleos (ST1). En cada preparaci車n microsc車pica se contaron aleatoriamente 300 c谷lulas. Para evaluar el grado de queratinizaci車n de la enc赤a se utiliz車 el 赤ndice de queratinizaci車n. Se realiz車 un seguimiento citol車gico peri車dico en 4 etapas: antes del tratamiento, al finalizar la preparaci車n inicial y despu谷s de 15 y 45 d赤as de tratamiento. Se comprob車 que la enc赤a recupera su patr車n citol車gico normal a los 45 d赤as. This investigation was performed with the aim of identifiing the patterns of cell exfoliation during the course of periodontal treatment, and comparing the gingival cytologic response with different therapeutical methods. A number of 90 patients of both sexes with ages ranging from 20 to 50 years studied. Three groups with 30 patients each were formed taking into account that they presented with clinical disease elective for certain therapeutical modalities established in the study (flaps, gingivectomy, dental scaling, and root planing). Cytologic samples were taken in the vestibular zone of the marginal and papillar gingiva by gingival curettage, then they were fixed by cytospray and stained by the calssic method of Shorr-Pundel. The cell evaluation was performed taking into account only two cytological types: superficial cells without nucleous (ST2) and superficial cells with nucleous (ST1). In each microscopic preparation 300 cells were randomly counted. The keratinization index was used to evaluate the degree of gingival keratinization. A periodical cytologic follow-up was performed in 4 stages: before treatment, after the initial preparation was completed, and after 15-45 days of treatment. It was evidenced that the gingiva recovers a normal cytological patter
