%X The author analyses the relationship established during the fifteenth and the first half of the sixteenth centuries between one of the most powerful noble families in Castile, the Velasco family, and one of the Benedictine monasteries that exercised a most prominent role as lord of vassals in this kingdom, the monastery of San Salvador de O a. He proves that during this period the members of the Velasco family acted most of the time as  encomenderos  (protectors) of the monastery, and he gives account of some of the actions they undertook to fulfil this task. He also pays attention to the conflicts that arised between both of them, and finally he gives account of the intervention of members of the Velasco family in the regulation of internal matters of the monastic community. El autor analiza las relaciones establecidas durante el siglo XV y en la primera mitad del siglo XVI entre uno de los linajes nobles m¨¢s poderosos de Castilla, el de los Velasco, y uno de los monasterios benedictinos con mayor implantaci¨®n se orial en el reino, el de San Salvador de O a. Demuestra que los Velasco actuaron como encomenderos de este monasterio durante la mayor parte de este per¨ªodo, y da cuenta de algunas de las acciones concretas en que se tradujo el desempe o de esta funci¨®n. Tambi¨¦n presta atenci¨®n a los conflictos que surgieron entre ambas partes, y da cuenta por fin de la intervenci¨®n de miembros de la casa de Velasco en la regulaci¨®n de asuntos internos de la comunidad mon¨¢stica.
