%X Los trastornos temporomandibulares constituyen un problema de salud mundial. Estudios epidemiol車gicos en relaci車n con su prevalencia indican que m芍s del 50 % de la poblaci車n ha padecido de signos y s赤ntomas relacionados con esta patolog赤a, entre los que se encuentran ruidos, dolor articular y limitaci車n al movimiento. El grupo de estudio estuvo constituido por 40 pacientes con trastornos de la articulaci車n temporomandibular (ATM), de ambos sexos y mayores de 20 a os, que acudieron a consulta en la Facultad de Estomatolog赤a de La Habana. El diagn車stico se estableci車 por el interrogatorio y el examen cl赤nico. Para la obtenci車n de los datos se cre車 un formulario con el objetivo de evaluar la eficacia del uso del minil芍ser en la terapia de los trastornos de la ATM, evaluar la evoluci車n de intensidad dolorosa presente, antes y despu谷s del tratamiento con l芍ser y tratamiento farmacol車gico, as赤 como determinar el n迆mero de aplicaciones necesarias para el alivio total o parcial del dolor y m迆sculo con mayor afectaci車n. La aplicaci車n de la t谷cnica se realiz車 en 2 grupos; el primero recibi車 terapia farmacol車gica activa y el segundo terapia l芍ser. Al culminar el tratamiento se evaluaron los casos y se remitieron a la consulta de ATM para el tratamiento definitivo. Los resultados revelaron que el mayor porcentaje de los pacientes tuvo remisi車n total del dolor con el tratamiento con l芍ser terapia, en relaci車n con los que se trataron con f芍rmacos, al igual que el 赤ndice de dolor presente. Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) are a world health problem. Epidemiological studies indicate that over 50% of population has suffered some kind of sign and sympton caused by this pathology like joint sounds, joint pain and restricted movement. The study group was composed by 40 patients of both sexes and over 20 years of age that had come to the dental service of the Faculty of Dentistry in Havana province because of their temporomandibular joint (TMD) disorders. Clinical examination and questionnaires helped to make the final diagnosis. For data collection, a form was devised to evaluate the effectiveness of low intensity laser on TMD treatment and also pain intensity before and after treatment with laser and with drugs as well as to determine the number of required applications until total or partial pain relief, and the most affected muscle. The sample was divided into two groups; one received drug therapy and the other laser therapy.
