%X This article analyzes the Mexican press from a comparative perspectiveconsidering seven regions of the country: Jalisco, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Sinaloa, Michoac¨¢n, Zacatecas and Chiapas. It studies the processes of development of the newspapers from these regions. The analysis starts in 1792, the date when the first printing press arrived in Guadalajara, and concludes in 1950, when the first newspapers with the features of contemporary press appeared.
