%X Se realiz¨® un estudio descriptivo y retrospectivo de 119 pacientes que fueron ingresados por asma bronquial en el Hospital "Emilio B¨¢rcenas Pier", durante el primer semestre del a o 1998 en el municipio II Frente, Santiago de Cuba, para determinar el comportamiento de los ingresos hospitalarios por asma bronquial. Se encontraron como resultados m¨¢s importantes, una mayor incidencia en el grupo de edad de menos de 5 a os, el sexo que prevaleci¨® fue el femenino: la procedencia urbana fue la de mayor incidencia, el grado de la enfermedad que m¨¢s prevaleci¨® fue el grado III. Los meses de enero y febrero presentaban el mayor n¨²mero de ingresos, seguido de marzo y abril: el tratamiento profil¨¢ctico era conocido en la mayor¨ªa de los pacientes y s¨®lo un peque o porcentaje lo ejecutaron. El resto de los pacientes lo desconoc¨ªan. A descriptive and retrospective study of 119 patients who were hospitalized due to bronchial asthma in "Emilio Barcenas Pier" Hospital, was performed during the first semester of 1998 in II Frente municipality of Santiago de Cuba province so as to determine the behaviour of hospitalizations for bronchial asthma. The most important results found were the following: a greater incidence in the age group under 5 years old, the female sex was the prevailing one, the urban origin was the one of greater incidence and the 3rd degree of the disease was the one that prevailed most. The months of January and February presented the greatest number of admissions, followed by March and April: the prophylatic treatment was known in the majority of the patients and only a small percentage of them performed it. The rest of the patients did not know it.
