%X Se hizo un estudio de 12 fallecidos, cuya causa principal de muerte fue la peritonitits aguda, que evolucion車 hacia el s赤ndrome de disfunci車n m迆ltiple de 車rganos. Entre ellos predomin車 el sexo femenino, la edad avanzada y la presencia de alguna enfermedad asociada o de base. Afectados por una colecistopat赤a liti芍sica de m芍s de 1 a o de evoluci車n, se demoraron en asistir al Cuerpo de Guardia del Hospital Provincial Clinicoquir迆rgico Docente "Saturnino Lora", de Santiago de Cuba, cuando sufrieron los s赤ntomas de colecistitis aguda, de modo que fueron operados en las primeras 24 horas del diagn車stico o despu谷s de ese tiempo, pero ya las complicaciones hab赤an condicionado una evoluci車n desfavorable. En algunos casos se hizo necesario reintervenir en m芍s de una ocasi車n A study was carried out in 40 deceased patients who died because of an acute peritonitis resulting in a syndrome of multiple organ failure. Most patients were female aged subjects who presented with an associated or baseline disease. Patients were affected by a cholelithiasis with more than I year of evolution and came late to the Emergency Department of "Saturnino Lora" Provincial Teaching hospital when they began to suffer the symptoms of acute cholecystitis, so they were operated on within the first 24 hours of the diagnosis or afterwards, but at that moment complications had led to a nonfavourable evolution.
