%X Research into the molecular initiators of bone development and repair has culminated in the identification of an entirely new family of proteins that regulate bone and dentin formation calledbone morphogenetic proteins or BMPs. These molecules are involved in chemotaxis, mitotic and differentiation of mesenchymal cells to induce bone or dentin formation, depending on the local where they are implanted. This paper intended to review the literature about the possibility of employment of biological material on the dental pulp addressing its first description, functions, action roles and therapeutic indications. The results of in vitro and clinical studies show a good perspective about BMPs and verify that BMPs are efficient to induce growth of dental tissue.
