%X In spite of archives have ancient roots, that can be confused with the origins of the writing itself, Archival Science as a discipline only in the 19th century began to be settled in the scope of historicism and positivism and in a perspective of ※auxiliary science§ of History. This historical and custodial perspective gained new shapes by the end of the century, because of the importance of technicism that has been improved along the 20th century, by the effect of social, economic and cultural conditions, derived from the technological revolution in progress. In this paper the traditional paradigm, designated as historicist, custodial and technicist, is put forward to a new and emergent paradigm, named post-custodial, informational and scientific, that understands this discipline as an applied branch of Information Science＊s field. The epistemological, theoretical and methodological groundings of the proposed view are exposed. --------------------- Resumo: Apesar de os arquivos terem origens muito remotas, que se podem confundir com as origens da pr車pria escrita, a Arquiv赤stica como disciplina s車 no s谷culo XIX e no quadro do historicismo e do positivismo, se come ou a afirmar, numa perspectiva de ※ci那ncia auxiliar§ da Hist車ria. Esta perspectiva historicista e custodial adquiriu novos contornos por alturas da viragem do s谷culo, gra as 角 afirma  o da vertente tecnicista, que se desenvolveu ao longo de todo o s谷culo XX, por efeito das condi  es sociais, econ車micas e culturais derivadas da revolu  o tecnol車gica em curso. Neste texto p e-se em confronto o tradicional paradigma historicista, custodial e tecnicista da Arquiv赤stica com um novo paradigma emergente, apelidado de p車s-custodial, informacional e cient赤fico que entende esta disciplina como um saber aplicado do campo da Ci那ncia da Informa  o, sendo apresentados os fundamentos epistemol車gicos, te車ricos e metodol車gicos da abordagem proposta.
