The analysis of the data, based on semantic and pragmatic criteria, leads to a sub-typology involving (i) utterance purpose clauses expressing a purpose discourse relation at the illocutionary level and (ii) utterance purpose clauses that qualify the speech act itself. In both cases, only the dynamics of interaction can explain their functioning. An analysis of the compatibilities of utterance purpose clauses with different classes of speech acts is also provided in this paper. %K integrated subordinate clauses %K peripheral subordinate clauses %K content purpose clauses %K utterance purpose clauses %K illocutionary act. %U http://ler.letras.up.pt/uploads/ficheiros/9916.pdf
