%X Resumo: Frente ao medo de fragmenta  o, que poderia conduzir a uma nova guerra, a Europa implementou um intenso processo de integra  o, que culminou na forma  o da Uni o Europ¨¦ia, uma organiza  o supranacional. A redu  o das barreiras econ micas e pol¨ªticas que permitiram a integra  o europ¨¦ia e a forma  o de uma identidade comum, tamb¨¦m direcionaram a pol¨ªtica comunit¨¢ria para o controle das fronteiras externas. Nesse cen¨¢rio, a imigra  o ilegal ¨¦ encarada como uma amea a ¨¤ integra  o europ¨¦ia, passando a ser tratada pelos mecanismos de seguran a. O presente artigo tem como objetivo estudar o processo de securitiza  o do controle de fronteiras na Uni o Europ¨¦ia, especialmente quanto ¨¤ evolu  o das institui  es comunit¨¢rias e a cria  o de uma ag¨ºncia europ¨¦ia de controle de fronteiras, a FRONTEX. Como m¨¦todo, optou-se por revis o bibliogr¨¢fica de material produzido por autores europeus. A base te¨®rica ser¨¢ o trabalho de Buzan e Waever sobre ¡°Complexos Regionais de Seguran a¡± (Regions and Powers: The Structure of International Security). Abstract: Due to fear of fragmentation that could lead to a new war, Europe has implemented an intensive integration process, which culminated in the formation of the European Union, a supranational organization. The reduction of economic and political barriers that have allowed the european integration and the formation of a common identity, also directed the community policy for the control of external borders. In this scenario, illegal immigration is seen as a threat to european integration, starting to be handled by security mechanisms. This article aims to study the process of securitization of border control in the European Union, especially regarding the evolution of the community institutions and the creation of a european border control agency, the FRONTEX. As a method, we chose literature review of material produced by european authors. The theoretical basis is the work of Buzan and Waever on "Regional Security Complex" (¡°Regions and Powers: The Structure of International Security¡±).
