%X The aim of this paper is to provide a synthetic overview of current studies on grammaticalization. It first reconstructs the theoretical assumptions of this model and then attempts to discern the characteristics of the process of linguistic change which enters this field of study. It also discusses the types of changes assumed to characterize ¨C or at least to be associated with it. On the way, we point out the issues that generate ongoing debate.
