%X El virus papiloma humano (VPH) corresponde a la infecci車n de transmisi車n sexual (ITS) m芍s frecuente en el mundo, afectando a hombres y mujeres por igual. En hombres, el VPH ha sido asociado principalmente a lesiones como verrugas ano-genitales y en los 迆ltimos a os a neoplasias intraepiteliales de pene y ano. La prevalencia de VPH en el hombre es muy variada, dependiendo del tipo de muestra y las t谷cnicas de detecci車n. Las muestras celulares del cuerpo del pene, glande, prepucio, surco coronal, orina y semen han sido las m芍s utilizadas y su detecci車n se realiza habitualmente con t谷cnicas de reverse line blot (RLB) y captura h赤brida (CH). Dado a que las mayores tasas de infecci車n se encuentran en 芍frica y Latinoam谷rica, esta revisi車n tiene como objetivo describir la patogenia de VPH y sus principales t谷cnicas de detecci車n en el hombre. Globally, human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most frequent sexually transmitted infection (STI) and it affects men and women equally. In men, HPV has been mainly associated with skin lesions like ano-genital warts and intraepithelial neoplasia of penis and anus in recent years. HPV prevalence in men varies extremely due to kind of sample and detection techniques. The most widely used samples to study HPV in men are: penile shaft, glans, prepuce, coronal sulcus, urine and semen, and its detection is usually performed with techniques like reverse line blot (RLB) and hybrid capture (HC). Given that the highest infection rates are in Africa and Latin America, the aim of this review is to describe the pathogenesis of HPV and its main detection techniques in men.
