We selected 25 teleradiograms of patients with cleft lip and/or palate and divided in two groups: I - 11 radiographs of patients with permanent dentition; and II - 14 radiographs of patients with mixed dentition. On the radiographs, the identification of point A according to Downs analysis was attempted, and the bone profiles were classified as convex (30 to 15 degrees), straight (15 to 0 degrees) and concave (0 to -25 degrees. Analysis of data showed that: (a) point A was visualized in 64% of the sample; (b) 50% of the sample had a concave profile; (c) in group I, the most frequent profile type was concave (77%); (d) in group II, frequencies of profile types were similar. Results led to the following conclusions: (a) the identification of point A was limited; (b) the concave bone profile was predominant in the sample under analysis. %U http://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=85012264004
