%X RESUMEN: La cadena estilohioidea es constituida por el proceso estiloide del hueso temporal, ligamento estilohio¨ªdeo y cuerno menor del hueso hioides. La patofisiolog¨ªa de esa cadena es muy estudiada, principalmente lo que se refiere al S¨ªndrome de Eagle, entidad cl¨ªnica caracterizada por el alargamiento del proceso estiloides, y una serie de s¨ªntomas como disfon¨ªa, disfagia, dolor far¨ªngeo, glositis, otalgia, tonsilitis, dolor facial, cefalea, odinofagia y dolor en la articulaci¨®n t¨¦mporomandibular. Datos morfom¨¦tricos de esas estructuras son escasos en la literatura. Este estudio busc¨® establecer valores de la longitud de la cadena estilohio¨ªdea y de sus elementos. Fueron utilizadas 30 cadenas estilohioideas de 15 regiones del cuello, de cad¨¢veres pertenecientes al Departamento de Anatom¨ªa del Centro de Ciencias Biol¨®gicas de la Universidade Federal de Pernambuco de Brasil, cadenas que fueron disecadas y luego medidas con paqu¨ªmetro de 0,02mm de precisi¨®n. A trav¨¦s del an¨¢lisis estad¨ªstico verificamos que los resultados est¨¢n de acuerdo con los referidos en la literatura para el proceso estiloides del hueso temporal. Por otra parte, valores para el ligamento estilohio¨ªdeo y cuerno menor del hueso hioides no se encuentran disponibles en la literatura SUMMARY: The stylohyoid chain is formed by the styloid process of temporal bone, the stylohyoid ligament and the lesser cornu of hyoid bone. The pathophysiology of this chain is quiet studied, mainly referring to the Syndrome of Eagle, a clinical entity characterized by the elongation of the styloid process, presenting symptoms like dysphonia, dysphagia, pharyngeal pain, glossitis, otalgia, tonsillitis, facial pain, cephalalgia, odynophagia, and pain in the temporomandibular joint. Morphometric evidence about these structures is scarce in the literature. Thus, this study stablished values of length of the stylohyoid chain and its elements. 30 stylohyoid chains of 15 necks regions of corpse of the Departamento de Anatomia do Centro de Ci¨ºncias Biol¨®gicas da UFPE, where dissected and measured using a pachymeter with accuracy of 0,02mm. The statistical analysis veryfied that the evidence presented in this study are in accordance with the literature about the styloid process of temporal bone, besides to discuss values for the stylohyoid ligament and the lesser cornu of hyoid bone, which are not available in the literature
