Mobile communications such as GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) is already widespread and supports a large number of subscribers all around the global. The voice traffic is on an increase over the already existing system thereby demanding bulk resources, increasing the overall cost and putting a limit to its use in the long run. The security of the voice traffic is also an issue of concern to avoid intrusion by nscrupulous elements over the mobile communication network. A bankable solution for this is to reduce the overall bit rate of the system while still maintaining toll-quality speech and providing security to the speech signal before its transmission over the network. The advantages benefited are efficient use of available bandwidth, robustness to errors, secure communication, and reliability and flexibility of the system. %K GSM %K speech coding %K security %K encryption %K bandwidth %U http://www.ijest.info/docs/IJEST11-03-01-009.pdf
