%X Incarceration has become a multi-billion dollar industry that relies on more than 2 million citizens on any give day in the United States. African American males, who in the 1970s were only 9% of the prison population, after harsher sentencing largely fueled by the drug trade, are now 62% of the prison population. This is viewed as a national tragedy.
