%0 Journal Article %T The End of History and the new Croatian historical novel %A Natka Badurina %J Slavica TerGestina %D 2012 %I %X The article is about the state of dissolution of metanarratives in contemporary Croatian literature and literary criticism. Particular attention is devoted to the historical novel of the last two decades and to literary criticism defining it as historiographic metafiction. The incomplete realisation of postmodernist demands in these novels is usually attributed to the fact that history has not yet finished in Croatia. The request for postmodern transformation of the genre of historical novel is connected to the ethical issues the Croatian historical novel addresses, in particular the novels Triemeron by Nedjeljko Fabrio and Trieste (Sonnenschein) by Da a Drndi . In the article we attempt to detect the return of the grand narrative, both in the case of criticism, when it addresses the trauma suffered by others, and in the moral discourse within the novels. %K postmodernism %K postsocialism %K historiographic metafiction %K Croatian historical novel %K Nedjeljko Fabrio %K Da a Drndi %U http://www.openstarts.units.it/dspace/bitstream/10077/8494/1/Badurina_SlavicaTer_14_2012.pdf
