%X Este trabajo presenta una evaluaci車n de la comprensi車n del sistema de numeraci車n decimal de un joven con s赤ndrome de Down. Para ello, se utiliza un marco que consta de cuatro componentes (contar, agrupar, particionar y establecer relaciones num谷ricas) y cinco niveles de pensamiento en cada una de ellas. Los niveles de pensamiento se organizan de manera jer芍rquica, en funci車n del tama o de los n迆meros y el razonamiento empleado. Los resultados de este estudio indican que el sujeto se sit迆a b芍sicamente en el primer nivel de pensamiento, ya que razona en t谷rminos de unidades individuales y no muestra habilidades para agrupar. Sin embargo, demuestra saber escribir, leer y sumar n迆meros de varias cifras. Esto indica que su dominio en los procedimientos no se corresponde con una adecuada comprensi車n de las reglas del sistema de numeraci車n decimal, como el valor posicional.A study on the understanding of decimal number system of a child with Down syndromeABSTRACTThis work presents an assessment of the understanding of the decimal numeral system of a young with Down syndrome. For this, it is used a framework of four components (counting, grouping, partitioning and numerical relationships) and five levels of thinking for each one. The levels of thinking are organized hierarchically, depending on the size of the numbers and the reasoning used. The results of this study indicate that the individual is located mainly in the first level of thinking since he reasons in terms of individual units and does not show ability to group. However, he shows knowing how to write, read and add up multiple digit numbers. This indicates that his domain in procedures does not correspond to a proper understanding of the rules of the decimal numeral system, especially of place value.
