%X Este trabalho aborda e discute dois pressupostos normalmente impl¨ªcitos no estudo do empreendedorismo: I) O empreendedorismo ¨¦ um comportamento que cria valor social; II) a oferta de empreendedores n o ¨¦ r¨ªgida, pois o comportamento empreendedor pode ser ensinado. Seguindo uma linha de investiga  o iniciada por Baumol (1990), foi poss¨ªvel concluir que o empreendedorismo pode ser improdutivo, e at¨¦ destrutivo, o que apela ¨¤ discuss o cr¨ªtica da premissa I). Com base na abordagem da influ¨ºncia dos fatores biol¨®gicos, em especial os gen¨¦ticos, na tend¨ºncia para ser empreendedor, constatou-se que o ensino de empreendedorismo pode ser afetado pela presen a ou aus¨ºncia dos gen¨®tipos adequados. Como estes n o s o alter¨¢veis, justifica-se um aprofundamento cr¨ªtico do pressuposto II), da¨ª que ¨¦ devida uma maior aten  o ¨¤ qualidade do empreendedorismo enquadrada pelo ambiente jur¨ªdico e institucional. Este deve potenciar a utiliza  o do talento empreendedor em atividades produtivas. The present paper focuses on two assumptions that usually are implicit in entrepreneurship: I) it creates social value; II) it can be taught. Firstly, we stress some empirical literature pointing to the non rejection of the Baumol¡äs hypothesis about unproductive entrepreneurship. This result fosters a critical discussion of assumption I). Secondly, from the empirical literature about biologic factors of entrepreneurship, it is highlighted that hereditable factors play a role. The consequence is that genetics interferes with the learning processes of entrepreneurship. This is valuable for the discussion of assumption II). If it is not easy to increase the supply of entrepreneurs, and if not all entrepreneurship increase social value, instead of focusing on the quantity of entrepreneurship, the political agenda should attend to the institutional context and the legal framework that affects the allocation of entrepreneur resources between productive and unproductive entrepreneurship.
