%X The protection of ecology and environment has been considered as an important issue in the planning and sustainable development of regional tourism resources,especially in the ecologically sensitive area in China.In this paper,the suitability of ecology and environment of Dongsheng District of Erdos City in Inner Mongolia is analyzed in the development of tourism from spatial perspectives,which is Ecologically Sensitive Area,located in the North China FarmingGrazing Transitional Belt.Firstly the definitions of ecologically sensitive area and suitability of ecology and environment are discussed and identified.Secondly,taking the influences of tourism resources development and tourism behavior into account and meanwhile considering natural and ecological characteristics of this region,some basic indexes of physical geography,such as degree of the surface cutting,gradient and aspect of slope are analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively with TM image interpretation and the DEM building.Thirdly,the vegetation situation is depicted through calculating NDVI and then according to these indexes,3 feasible areas and 1 sub-feasible area are found in Dongsheng District.At last,three points are presented about significance of suitability of ecology and environment on the tourism resources development and the eco-environment protection: 1) In the process of development and planning of tourism resources,it is necessary to study ecological and environmental characteristics.Be sure not to damage the natural environment at the most and the selection and planning of tourism area should be based on the evaluation of suitability of ecology and environment;2) Even if the development of tourism resources is in the feasible area,the influences of ecology and environment should be evaluated and the ecological capacity should be calculated carefully.And then the range and the process of tourism development should be restricted and the tourist capacity and time capacity should be designed carefully to offset the negative influences of tourism development on ecological and natural environment;3) Artificial and cultural tourism resources of Erdos City should be developed actively and try to decrease the dependence of tourism development on natural ecology.Meanwhile outdoor travel activities characterized large capacity and high density should be reduced and culture exhibition and custom play can be developed as a supplement of existent travel products.
