%X Viewing from the extension of resources definition, the basic concept of resources systems has been brought forward in this paper. Such complex systems can generate economic value in order to improve current and future human benefits, and serve as the entity of resource factors and conditions. Resources systems engineering is reasonable planning, design, operation and management of the ideological and organizational skills collectively for resources systems, which aim at researching resources in a cross-discipline manner. This paper set forth that the theoretical basis for resources systems engineering is the theory of systems engineering, systems engineering technology and resources science and the main content of resources systems engineering. Research on disciplinarian of resources systems, exploitation, utilization, coordination and control of resources, resources systems engineering research methodology and discipline system were defined initially. Hot topics currently in the field of resources systems engineering are discussed in the paper, including the research on resources ecology, resources informatics, quantitative analysis of system resources, as well as use of modern technology and methods. Resources systems engineering will play a very important role in the disciplinary system of resources science. Modern science, technology and information will enhance the development of resources systems engineering. Moreover, resources systems engineering will become more mature in application. The research trends of modern resources engineering focus on different topics as per different aspects: in the field of sustainable development, the studies focus on resources ecology, resource economics, legislation and management of resources; in resources information system, the studies focus on cross-generated of information science, resources science, space science, and engineering combining with other disciplines. Comprehensive resources systems study on natural resources, social resources and knowledge resources, which can be expanded to the concept study of resources. The efficiency of resource development and utilization of research studies from the perspective of in the flow of resources. The study focuses on the forecast of static and dynamic analysis, natural evaluation and socio-economic analysis. Modern resources science research tend to focus on quantitative and qualitative, half quantitative and the growing amount of models, which are described to be out of the behind state. Resources Systems study via the conventional means, high-tech applications ways and means of increasing modernization, remote sensing technology (RS), global positioning system (GPS), geographic information systems (GIS) and the extensive use of computer technology, which have greatly enhanced the speed and quality of resources scientific research.
