%X Experimental investigation on the friction and wear properties of carbon fiber reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFRPEEK) sliding against zirconia ceramic was carried out on a friction and wear testing apparatus. The effects of normal pressure and sliding velocity on the tribological behaviors were discussed. It was found that the friction coefficient decreased with velocity and there existed a running-in process at a low velocity. The frictional trace was steady and the specific wear rate of CFRPEEK was low and independent of velocity at a high velocity. Compared with velocity, the influence of pressure on the friction coefficient was insignificant, and the wear rate of CFRPEEK increased with pressure. At high pressures the friction coefficient increased considerablely and fluctuated severely, and severe wear of CFRPEEK occurred. The dominating wear mechanisms of CFRPEEK and zirconia were adhesive wear and pitting, respectively
