%X A review is given on the use of evolutionary techniques for the automatic design of adaptive robots, which blazes a new way in the field where traditional centralized planning method can not find effective solutions. This paper outlines the background, fundamentals, approaches and main results of evolutionary robotics(ER). Several open questions and the trend in ER are also discussed.
