%X The microstrip fed tapered slot antenna was improved with the loaded high resistor and short circuit pin, and a novel ultra wideband antenna structure was therefore proposed. The whole configuration of the novel antenna was optimized with ANSOFT HFSS, and an antenna model for 1~40 GHz was designed on the substrate of FR4. The simulated results show that the limitation of the feed line to the impedance bandwidth is overcome and the antenna size is reduced by 37.4% by the new structure. The antenna is fabricated and its impedance and radiation characteristics are measured. There is a good agreement between the measured and simulated results.
