%X Because IP multicast requires upgrading routers and it is not mature in reliability and congestion control, the Overlay multicast networks are being increasingly recognized as a viable alternative to construct a general multicast service infrastructure. To settle the heterogeneity of bandwidth required by real-time multimedia application, the max-min rate allocation problem of multirate multicast is studied in heterogeneous Overlay networks. A distributed algorithm is presented, which is able to achieve the max-min rate allocation for any given Overlay multicast tree and optimize the network resource utilization.
