%X Modeling is an effective approach during science research or engineering development. Based on the brief introduction to basic structure of network management systems ,this paper discusses the application scope of modeling method. Subsequently, related to the development work in the project of HiTMN, a local telephone network management system, two kinds of model are built for telephone switching network. They are mathematical model and object-oriented model, built using mathematical modeling method and object modeling technology respectively. Finally ,the importance of using modeling technologies in network management is emphasized.
