%X Presently, distributed object technology such as CORBA has increasingly become mature. More and moredistributed application systems are implemented using the standard services and protocols provided by CORBA. Thenew-generation distributed systems such as real time systems, online paying systems and stock exchange systems de-mand assurance of dependability. Fault tolerance is a main way of assurance of system reliability. Thereby, it re-quires low-level CORBA infrastructure to provide fault-tolerance mechanism to ensure dependability and availability.This paper firstly discusses implementation strategy and system model of fault-tolerance CORBA object systems. Sec-ondly, it describes main challenges and solutions during the design of fault-tolerance CORBA systems. Thirdly it in-troduces fault-tolerance CORBA prototype system-TBAFTS on top of a CORBA-compliant object middleware, Tong-Broker developed by us independently. Finally we give our conclusion.
