%X Biotransformation of dioscin into diosgenin could be performed by a Rhizopus arrhizus var. arrhizus strain isolated from Dioscorea nipponica. Diosgenin extraction through fermenting D. nipponica by the strain was carried out. HPLC measurement showed that biotransformed diosgenin was highly yielded, reaching 3.00%, while the extraction ratio was improved. This is a simple and environmentally beneficial method with high yield of diosgenin worthy to be popularized.
