%X Tests of anastomoses between virus-free and virus-infected strains (821,822 and 803, 801) of Penicillium chrysogenum marked by conidia colour and nutritional requirement were carried on. Heterokaryons were formed and gave rise to dark green sectors and speckles. Comparisons of conidial size and DNA content per conidia for 'hybrids' and parental strains indicated that the 'hybrids' were diploid. The transmission of virus has been examined through heterokaryon tests involving the parasexual cycle of this fungus by means of electron microscopy, Ouchterlony doublediffusion, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and radio immunological method. Results indicated that all progeny with yellow conidia contained virus, while diploid and the progeny with green conidia didn't carry virus. It seems that the strains 821 and 822 couldn't support the replication of Penicillium chrysogenum virus.
