%X The arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi colonization on the root system of 42 plants (in 30 families) in the tropical rain forest of Xishuangbanna was surveyed. Twenty-five arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi were isolated and identified to the genera of Acaulospora, Glomus and Sclerocystis. The arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal spore density, the species richness and the species frequency in the soil of tropical rain forest were analyzed. It was found that the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal spore density has a range of 116~1560/100g, average 478/100g(spores /g soil), the species richness was between 2~7 (average 4.5). Acaulospora and Glomus fungi were the dominant AM fungi in the soil of tropical rain forest of Xishuangbanna.
