In order to achieve this high compression ratio, it uses RDO to choose the best mode for every macroblock, which result in high computation complexity, and makes it difficult for applications on real - time system. Investigations showed that, the edge of a image always tended to a certain direction. Based on this feature, a fast directional field and termination based H. 264 fast intra mode decision method was presented and embedded in H. 264 reference code JM9. 3. Experiment results showed that, this method can reduce average 46% calculation complexity with little degradation on PSNR and Bitrate. %K H %K 264
