%X There are lots of databases about electronic medical records, medical literature and clinical trials which are birth-defect-related in the network. If these databases are integrated and managed effectively, it will facilitate fast query and comprehensive analysis of massive data. Based on the above requirements, an ontology-based knowledge management system for birth defects was designed. The ontology-based data integration, data annotation, and data query are realized in this system. The system is used as a subsystem of a information portal system for population and reproductive health which is supported by the State Key Technology R&D Programs.
