%X This paper employed a cross-layer architecture to enhance the quality of the video transmission over 802.11e wireless local area networks. In the architecture, proposed a novel significance based early detection (SBED) algorithm, which dynamically mapped scalable video coding (SVC) packets onto appropriate access categories (ACs) in the MAC layer. With the algorithm, the base-layer packet loss rate and average significance loss were well balanced. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing static mapping and random mapping schemes significantly.
