%X Vision-based autonomous navigation and path planning is a key technology for mobile robot research. This paper surveyed the developments of the decades in the area of vision-based navigation and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for mobile robot. Expatiated the feature and approach to per environment category. For indoor navigation, made a enumeration consist of several approach and typical model of environment. Probed into the lastest works on SLAM: HTM-SLAM and feature-based algorithm. For the outdoor visual navigation, summarizes the achievements obtained by many countries and institutes.
