%X A relatively new form of biometrics automatic ear biometrics was introduced and compared with popular forms of biometrics. Then key technologies of ear recognition were roughly introduced according to different features extraction. The leading works including those which appeared in the research world very lately were given, such as PCA, based on neural networks using various combination techniques, force field transformation, genetic local search, based on geometrical method, long axis based shape and structure feature extraction method and so on. Key factors in ear recognition technologies were coneluded and an overview of prospective development of this area was given.
