%X New systematic software maintenance model has been presented and the relationship between software development and software maintenance activities is discussed. The model focuses on the systemic perspective of software maintenance. From the angleofsystemsscience, itpointsoutthatthemaintainabilityofsoftwaresystemisdifferentfromthesoftwareproduct, and then defines a new index, Interactive Index, to indicate the maintainability efforts of the software maintenance system. Finally, it gives an idea to compute Interactive Index and the maintainability of the software system.
