%X A novel magnetic silica aerogel (MSA) was prepared from cheap waterglass precursors and Fe3O4 particles via sol-gel process, surface modification and ambient pressure drying. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), nitrogen adsorption BET surface analysis and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) measurements were used to characterize the properties of the MSA. The results showed that the MSA was hydrophobic with contact angles of 113°~116° and super-paramagnetic with saturate magnetization of 0.44 emu/g. The MSA had low density of 0.192 g/cm3, and large surface area of 589.79 m2/g. The adsorption results indicated that the MSA had good adsorption properties for removal of endrin, the adsorption isotherms were fitted by Freundlich model, and the value of KF was 42.91. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics process with the kinetics constant of 0.0341 g/(mg·min).
