%X The impacts of two nonionic surfactants (TX-100 and TW-80) on the solubility of benzoa]pyrene(BaP) and biomass production of Bacillus pumilus strain Bap9 were studied. Results show that TX-100 and TW-80 were not toxic to the BaP-degrading strain Bap9, and both of them could greatly increase the solubility of BaP when their concentration were above the critical micelle concentration (CMC). TX-100 is more effective than TW-80 in increasing solubility of BaP and proliferation of strain Bap9. The effect of degradation was best when the concentration of TX-100 reached 1000 mg/L, which increased 20.8% of the degradation rate. During the biodegradation of BaP, TX-100 could be utilized by the strain Bap9 as carbon source and would not produce any secondary pollution. As a result, TX-100 has considerable potential for the bioremediation of BaP in polluted soils and water.
