The results suggested that AMF colonization decreased the toxicity of heavy metals to Vicia faba. Compared with control, the P uptake was increased by AMF colonization but the biomass of mycorrhizal plants was not increased by AMF colonization. It showed large differences in uptakes of four heavy metals by mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal Vicia faba: AMF colonization enhanced the uptakes of Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd by Vicia faba. There existed large differences in DNA damage in the leaves of nonmycorrhizal and mycorrhizal plants detected by single cell gel electrophoresis,SCGE. The DNA damage in the leaves was increased by AMF colonization which was consistent with the increased metals uptake induced by AMF colonization. %K heavy metal %K combined contamination %K arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi %K DNA damage
