%X In this paper, the conceptions, basic contents. foundations and methodologies of regional ecologywere discussed. The study mainly includes the structure. function, quality monitoring, assessment, simula-tion, prediction, management and protection of regional ecosystem. The theoretical foundations of regionalecology are mainly theories of general ecology, normal site. dissipative structure and integrated macro-chem-istry. and the methodology of regional ecology has regional, comprehensive, systernatic, optimal, quantrtativeand practical characteristics. The situation of regional ecology research in China is also introduced here.
