%X Methyl 6-methyl-4-(4-iodophenyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-thioxo-5-pyrimidinecarboxylate has been synthesized via Biginelli reaction of 4-iodobenzaldehyde, methyl acetoacetate and thiourea, promoted by microwave irradiation in the presence of iodine under solvent-free conditions in high yield and good purity.
