%T A PRELIMINARY STUDY OF HUAIHE RIVER DELTA<br>淮河三角洲的初步研究

%X The occurence, development and evolution of Huaihe River delta were studied for the first time by analyzing its geological data. Some conclusions reached are as follows. 1. The delta was formed during early and middle stages of Holocene as revealed by sedimentary sequence of Huaihe River delta both horizontally and vertically. The later reformation of Huanghe River delta started after Huanghe River captured Huaihe River. 2. In the course of its formation, the delta,owing to its changing of velocity has undergone several stages of formationdestruction-formation. 3. The formations of Haizhou Gulf low-plain and Lixiahe lagoon and low-lying land were fouud to be closely related to the growth of Huaihe River delta in northern Jiangsu coastal zone. 4. Transgression advanced progressively in Holocene. Yet the swift and violent deposition of the continental substance destroyed the continuance of the transgression in Holocene.
