%X Floc strength and structure are particularly important parameters in flocculation. In this paper, the fractal theory of floc structure is briefly addressed. The current situation in the research on floc structure and strength measurement; the parameters that influence floc characteristics, and control of the floc formation process are critically reviewed. Combined with experimental results, specific attention has been paid to the relationships among hydraulic conditions, floc structure and floc strength. These results indicate that gradually increasing shear can improve the structure and strength of flocs. Finally, the mechanism of floc restructuring and floc history is discussed.
