%X Inthispaper,theadsorptionand degradationofphenolon naturalmanganeseore werestudied. Theresultsindicatethat manganeseoreparticlesareexcellentadsorbentsforphenol.Highertemperature, low pHand higher massratio ofsolid/phenolarefavorabletoadsorptionofphenolon manganeseoresur faces.Second order kinetics were observed during adsorption process.The adsorption isotherms are linearised accordingto Langmuir model.Conditionaladsorption constantsandtotal manganese oresurface siteconcentration ofsurfacecomplexesofphenol with manganeseoreparticles werecalculatedbyasimpli fiedsurfacecomplexation model.Removalpercentage ofphenolon manganeseoresurfaces underthe best condition wasover80% ,in whichsunlightphotolysispercentage wasabout6% .p benzoquinone was main oxidized product underacidicpHconditions.Lightisfavorabletotheredox reaction oninterface.Possible degradation mechanisms were discussed.
