The results obtained demonstrated that DNPAOs were already present in the conventional biological phosphorus removal system. The proportion of DNPAOs increased from 15.5% to 73% of total phosphate accumulating organisms after three phase selection. Simultaneous anoxic phosphate uptake and biological denitrification with good performance could be obtained in the anaerobic/anoxic SBR operated in steady-state. The concentration of phosphorus at anoxic end was low than 1?mg/L and phosphorus and nitrate removal efficiency were above 94% and 95% respectively. %K Denitrifying %K phosphorus removal %K anoxic phosphorus uptake %K biological phosphorus removal %K nitrate
