%X The adsorption behavior of two POPs, heptachlor and heptachlor epoxide, on a novel triolein-embedded composite adsorbent (CA-T) was investigated. Results showed that CA-T seemed to be a promising adsorbent for removing lipophilic heptachlor and heptachlor epoxide in trace amounts from aqueous solutions. After adsorption for 48 h, the removal rates of heptachlor and heptachlor epoxide were 98.79% and 98.08%, respectively. The adsorption isotherms accorded with Freundlich equation. Kinetic data fitted well to the pseudo-second-order reaction model. The adsorption rate, equilibrium adsorption capacity and removal efficiency of heptachlor on CA-T were higher than that of heptachlor epoxide, which might be attributed to the stronger hydrophobicity of heptachlor. Higher removal rates and lower residual concentrations were achieved in CA-T system comparing with granular activated carbon (GAC) under the same operation conditions.
