%X The karyotype characteristics of Sciaenops ocellata was investigated using conventional staining, Ag-NORs and C-banding. The results are as follows: S. ocellata had a diploid chromosome number of 48 and its karyotype formula was 48t, NF=48; The Ag-NORs appeared in chromosome 1; The centromere of all chromosomes and the Ag-NORs presented positive C-banding; The length polymorphism of Chromosome 1 was not sex related but co-occurrenced with the Ag-NORs.
