%X Separation characteristics of 13 kinds of binary mixtures were investigated in a vibrating fluidized bed. A separation index, which was given by Williams through comparing the jetsam concentration in the upper and lower layers, was suggested. According to the effects of vibrating parameters and operating conditions on the separation index, the optimum vibrating parameters were obtained. From experimental results, the criterion of demarcating mixing/separation regions, which was defined by Zhang et al, was modified.
