%X The refractive indices of some fresh animal tissues in vitro were studied at wavelength of 650 nm by total internal reflection.Six types of animal tissues including chicken breast,porcine muscle,bovine muscle,mutton,porcine liver and porcine kidney were selected as samples.In order to facilitate measurement,the fresh animal tissues were prepared thin section of 2-mm-thickness.The experimental results of refractive indices of animal tissues range from 1.384 52 to 1.418 26.Especially,refractive indices were probed at vertical and parallel orientations with respect to the interface of tissue and prism respectively.The results demonstrate that the value of index probed at vertical orientation is larger than that probed at parallel orientation.
