%X Microbial desulfurization technology shows great potential in energy industry and environmental protection. This review introduces the isolated strains for removing sulfur from sulfur-containing compounds in oil and coal, and the desulfurization mechanism and kinetics. The status of the development and application of the technologies, economic evaluation, existing problems and trend of development for further study are deliberated meanwhile the importance of developing the biodesulfurization technology in China is stressed.
